Good takeout sushi. Very reasonable. If you are planning to eat at home anyway, you should order from here, compared to ordering from expensive Japanese restaurants or sushi bars. They have a nice selection of sake and Japanese snacks, too. I love it!

I eat here about once a week, Good selection of Fish and Rolls with great prices, excellent sake selection and very friendly staff. Few small counters in the front if you want to eat in.

The market is small but nice, but the key to this market is the sushi bar in the back. It is great sushi.

The proliferation of sushi places make it difficult to find good sushi. If you find a place which suit your tastes, that's great, but if you're not sure where to go and would like to find something authentic, then you can try this little place. It's mainly a little Japanese grocery store which also has a small kitchen in the back where they make sushi. Since the number of spots to eat in is limited, I expect much of their clientele are either taking the sushi to go or doing other grocery shopping. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any other place with the selection of Japanese food, so fortunately this place is around, even though it is small. If you don't mind eating on disposable plates and using disposable plastic cups for your soy sauce and are more concerned about the freshness of the food, then this quaint little place may be the right place for you. Note: They will be closed from May 10 to 25th, 2010. Also, they are closed on Sundays.

I LOVE the Sashimi at this quaint, convenient, & fantastic place to get Asian Groceries, and out the door with some fresh Sushi. I carryout lunch once or twice a week. Download the menu from their website, call ahead with your order and you are in and out in a jiffy. Very convenient for vactioning folks staying on the beach and the prices are excellent.

absolutely love the japanese market. it is obviously a grocery store with japanese merchandise. from seaweed, to japanese movies, to tea pots and sake. but the real gem is in the back of the store. there's a small sushi counter with the freshest, and dare i say, BEST sushi in ft. lauderdale. you place you order at the counter and tell them whether you are going to eat there or to go. inside the store there are two small table tops with bar stools and the sushi is brought out to you. i usually go there for a late lunch since i like to sit there, and during lunch its near impossible to get a seat. and the sushi is incredibly cheap. a makimono combo (what i usually get) is $6.95 for a large 8 piece california roll and a small 8 piece tuna or salmon roll. miso soup and green salad with ginger dressing are a buck each and so so good.

name = Sasaya really far off the beaten path for me store consists of only 2 aisles didn't get anything, but i suppose it's an alternate to my usual japanese market on 79th in terms of the simple menu, has standard rolls

I love Sasaya Japanese Market. I often go and order the sunrise roll. It is my favorite and I just can't resist getting it every time. Is it a coincidence that they are on Sunrise and that it looks like the sunrise?? They have a nice menu with typical sushi as well as unique rolls (check out the chalk board on the back sushi counter, too). The sushi master is so dedicated, always rolling such artful pieces, that he is there Monday through Saturday. But he also must get a vacation, so no sushi in September (call to confirm if it is September when you visit). To drink while enjoying your sushi, try a can of jasmine tea, unsweetened or sweetah (that's what the tag says), refreshing, not too sweet. The girls that work the store are always very sweet and will explain things to silly Americans looking to try new candies. The green mochi, right next to (actually kitty-corner) the cash register is amazing. They are gumi candies that taste like melon :) strawberry is good, too.

I give this place 5 stars because it is exactly what it is supposed to be. A Japanese market with a tiny sushi bar. We had the sushi plate for 2 for $19.95. It was 10 pieces of nigiri. Two each of tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp and white fish. It also came with a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. We added masago to both (they put it all the way around the outside! ) for only $1.00 per roll! They also had my favorite Japanese soda (see pic). There are tons of snacks and 3 coolers full of frozen and refrigerated food too! Green Tea ice cream anyone?

Sasaya is feeding my Japanese fever! Loved that it's a hidden little place that can easily be missed if you blink! The sushi is fresh and made to order by the chef in the back of the store. Very clean station and chef. The owner is from Tokyo, she's super friendly, courteous and helpful. 1. I had the dancing eel which was superb! 2. masago (fish eggs) excellent 3. Salmon nigiri has converted me from a salmon hater to a salmon lover!!! 4. First time trying tamago (omelette) , it was well made, I love eggs but I'm not a fan of sweet sushi. I love all the knickknacks, japanese cutlery and ceramic wares they had. It's the first time I tried Mochi - I got the strawberry ice cream, I'm hooked! Sushi with some refreshing strawberry Ramune, with a beach view, ahhhh this is bliss!!!

Sasaya Japanese market was a lot smaller than I expected but I wanted to check it out because I was nearby. The selections were very limited but they definitely had sake, beer, a good selection of Japanese staples like noodles, nori, and even a bunch of dishes. I popped in around 1 p.m. and at first I thought they were closed because the two bar stools were up ended on a table at the front but when I went to the back of the store there was a sushi restaurant and they seemed to be open. I took a look at the menu but because I just came from lunch and another place I didn't want to eat again because I was going to a massage in about an hour. In conclusion, I don't know if there are any other Japanese stores nearby but if you need some Japanese staples along with some freshly made sushi, this place would be a good choice.

Crazy to think that a very small sushi kitchen in a very small Japanese grocery store would NOT be questionable. Pyra-Danny V. told me about this place about a year ago, and Mark A. and I finally made our way here. I was very underwhelmed at first when we walked in. Danny, are you suuuure this is good? The menu is actually pretty extensive, so that was a good sign. I chose some shrimp tempura roll (sorry, I'm bad with names), then sat down at the front counter to wait. Very awkward, but you get over it. It's obviously more for take-out with your groceries than it is for sit-down and let us serve you. Grabbed a drink from the fridge and had a quick dinner date with the boyfriend. I liked that my sushi came with spicy mayo already on the side so I could smother it with mroe than what they probably would have sprinkled on. Nothing spectacular, but good simple sushi. Isn't that what all sushi should be anyway?

A search for takoyaki in Fort Lauderdale brought up this quaint little market that sells sushi. I've driven by this place many times but I've never thought to stop by until now. Although they don't have takoyaki, they do have amazing sushi! The cashier was really friendly and my order came out pretty quickly. The sushi isn't too pricey either, most of it is under $10.00 a roll. I ordered the Shrimp Katsu roll and the Spicy Tuna roll. Both rolls were outstanding and some of best sushi rolls that I've tasted in South Florida! The market section is just two aisles of things like nori and Japanese snacks such as Pocky and Apollo chocolates. There's also a few items such as chopstick rests and sauce containers. All in all, this little gem is truly worth a visit if you're looking for some quality sushi!

I love these kinds of sushi places, I always have the best meals. Small, unassuming holes in the wall with fresh sushi. We got the yellowtail, salmon California roll, spider roll, and katsu shrimp roll. Rice was nice and soft, even if it wasn't quite vinegary. There's absolutely no ambience, but that's what makes me like it even more. I can imagine coming here after a long day at work and treating yourself to a nice big plate of rolls, for under 20 bucks. The market itself offers a modest array of goods for the adventurous gringo or the homesick asian, everything from Pocky to Sake to face masks.

This review is based on the sushi bar in the back, not the market which is great. I compare Sasaya to Sushi One about a mile down the road. Both are cheap, quick sushi fixes but I must say I prefer Sushi One to Sasaya. The rice seems to be lacking the signature hint of vinegar that makes sushi (especially pieces) so delicious. The rolls aren't terribly creative, and rely heavily on krab and cooked shellfish. Raw fish options are limited. It's great for a quick and cheap sushi fix, especially if you aren't too into the raw options.

Fresh and tasty sushi at great prices. As Sean M says it's easy to miss. I did miss it but turned around. It was worth it. I had a combo special that was delicious, fresh, and filling for $10. They mostly have takeout but have seats in the front if you wish to dine indoors. There is also a mini supermarket selling unique Asian foods. This place is really NO FRILLS. So just come for the good food.

I have always driven by this place going to the Galleria Mall, and yesterday I decided to stop to check it out. Boy, was I surprised! The place is very small, but cozy. They have a small selection of Japanese products that are available for shopping. They also have fresh Sushi made to order - so my wife and I decided to try it out right away. She ordered the Nigiri Combo (comes with salad, soup or $1 drink) and I had the Tuna Crunch Roll. The Nigiri Combo comes with 5 sushi pieces, and it's very good. The Tuna Crunch Roll comes with 10 pieces of rolls - the quality is very good too. The lady who owns the place is the cashier, the waiter, the market attendant, everything (I like this) - she has a Sushi Man to make the orders. I loved this place. I will be back for sure - I intend to become a regular.

You can order your sushi there and take it or eat there. There are no alcoholic beverages but that's ok we weren't drinking. Everything is made right the in front of you. You can shop while you wait. They have a lot of stuff very well priced.

This review is just for the sushi because while I love mugs covered in cartoon cats and shrimp flavored corn chips they aren't generally things that I need. The seating is very limited but the service is fast. This place is a no frills , plastic plates, paper napkins kind of joint. The options are basic but top quality in flavor and texture. The miso was great and comes in a coffee cup. Overall this place is a gem however it falls a little short of Sushi 1 so only 4 stars. Cheers to my adventures in Fort Lauderdale and my quest for mercury poisoning.

Small Japanese store with a small Sushi Bar in the back. The Food that comes out of that bar is bang for its buck. I would definitrly go there again. I was also tempted to buy some of their cups and dishware lol.

Saw the excellent reviews and had to go- first attempt was Monday and they don't have sushi available on Monday =( so I went back Thursday and was so worth it. I'm not a big sushi girl, I'm trying to get into it. I had two California rolls and didn't want to move I was so stuffed. Fresh, delicious, and not that heavy fake cream cheese thing some Americanized places have. I also bought green pea chips and lychee gummie candies. It was a good day.

Probably one of the best sushi places in the area. The couple who own the place are nice and the place is always clean. They have plenty of Japanese snacks and drinks, including sake. The only thing that would make this place perfect would be some good ramen! If they sold real ramen hear I'd be the happiest guy in the world! It's hard to find but it's a nice hidden gem in Fort Lauderdale!

Though I didn't end up getting anything from here when visiting the area, this Japanese Market was smaller than I was expecting it to be. It's in a smaller shopping plaza and there are only two main aisles that have some interesting goods and foods, along with a sushi bar in the way back. Apparently, I was too much in a rush to get something to eat, but next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely buy something from this store.

My absolute favorite spot for sushi! It's always fresh and the price you can't beat. I love their jasmine green tea. I'm an avid sushi eater. They make the best sushi I've ever had. They get busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait a while if you walk in. You can call orders in. They always get it right. Never had any complaints.

I seem to be in disagreement with the opinions of many of my fellow Yelpers with regards to this establishment but as far as Japanese foods and items go, I've seen larger selections in some of the Asian Food sections of supermarkets than are contained in this little hole in the wall operation. It has very little shelf space and though some say it's as "authentic as you can get," I fail to see what is so Japanese authentic about H. L. Benndorf products out of Medford, New Jersey, Thai Peanut or Chinese Hoisin sauce. They do have a fairly decent but clearly take out sushi counter, the quality of which I found to be very good. However overall, in my opinion, this is but a two star mixed Asian food store only having a Japanese emphasis.

NASTY ATTITUDE!!!! Horrible manners for groups bigger than 2! We couldn't sit there even if they had enough chairs. They have two tables with 4 chairs each but when I when with my family of 6, they would not sit us! When trying to order anyways they refused to take my order bc they said they had many orders ahead! Super nasty and racist attitude! Definitely don't go here if you are not Asian! I would never recommend this place EVER!

Very small market in a small strip mall with a sushi counter in the back like a deli. Service was very friendly. We ordered some sushi, sashimi, miso soup and hand rolls. Everything was so fresh and tasty - very good sushi. The sashimi pieces were very thin and overpriced for what you get but sushi rolls were generous in size. The place only sits like six people so don't expect to eat there always if it's a busy time. Take out recommended.

Overall: This place is so legit you feel like you are at Japan. This place is amazing and delicious. The Good: The food, service, selection, are amazing. The sushi is extremely fresh and the owner is very welcoming. The Bad: Parking can be an issue, but once you get inside and try the food you automatically forget about any parking issue.

I only made an account on here to review this place, it's amazing. I've read past reviews about how the seating is horrible and the staff is rude, I disagree. the staff is amazing, I'm not sure what her name is, but the woman that runs the front is so nice and greets me every time I go in there with a smile and knows my order by heart. sure the seating isn't the greatest, but that's just part of going Japanese Market, its intimate. it's an awesome little place where you can grab some amazing sushi, candy, and snacks. nothing can compare to Japanese market, I genuinely love this place.

I went for fresh sushi & man did it hit the spot. It was so soft, melt-in-your-mouth. I loved the grocery area & the cute panda dishes! This store feels very authentic. Great prices too. It was my first time there & I will definitely be back! I went on a recommendation from my roommate & now I'm passing along my high recommendations to fellow Yelpers.

This small little place is a gem. The sushi we ordered was so fresh and tasty. It is always good to go to a Japanese restaurant with a Japanese friend. They always seem to know what to order. There is a limited space for seating, and I do mean limited. The service was good. If there are more than 2 to 3people before you, be prepared to wait, plus phone calls for take out. There is only 1 cashier/ server and 1 sushi chef. Overall this is a good place for sushi, and I will be back

A very cute, straightforward little Japanese market with a teeny tiny sushi bar in the back. A good selection of basic Japanese items, and yup, Sake. You can't drink the Sake in the store, though, so remember that if you decide to "dine in" (there are two small but perfectly good tables near the front of the store at stool-height). The sushi is simple and good - better than that at many regular sit-down sushi joints. The place does get busy with to-go sushi orders, so sometimes there can be a fairly sizable wait. Recommended!

Sasaya was recommended by a friend of mine who is obsessed with all things asian, particularly of the Japanese variety. Given the trust worthy source I decided to give it a go for lunch. Now, you want to be careful, there's another Japanese restaurant in the same plaza. In fact, I just about walked into it since they don't really have a name posted outside. I think it's a clever scheme to lure in people looking for Sasaya! The place itself isn't really a restaurant, but a small asian market with a sushi counter in the back. They have a couple of small tables up front and some counter space. You won't fit more than 8 people total. I ordered a sashimi/sushi combo and a seaweed salad. The salad was delicious. Well seasoned and fresh. The sashimi was fresh. The sushi was well prepared and the roll, properly rolled. Pretty good straight forward sushi. Overall a very good effort for a place this small.

This place is awesome! Its a small market with a FANTASTIC sushi bar in the back. It has very few tables, more of a take out spot but the service and quality is surprisingly good. The menu is very simple, nothing particularly fancy, but everything I've tried is pure quality. The prices are unbeatable, especially considering how good everything is!! I tried a few rolls and a sushi/sashimi platter. The fish was ultra fresh! The rolls were GREAT! (I tried simple stuff like a California roll and Dynamite). besides the delicious food, they have a nice array of japanese cuisine grocery items like moochi, edamame, a sake selection and quite a few unusual sodas and drinks. They have some lovely ceramic plates, sake glasses and quite a few chopsticks. I'm definitely going back... Over and over again!!!

Call in for some take out since I live a block away and the must say the sushi was pretty good. I'll probably go back

(Cue horror music) Sushi inside grocery markets! Noooo. But with soothing words from the Yelp app, a rumbling stomach, aching wallet, and my overwhelming curiosity brought me here. FOOD Merely looking at the slices of seafood displayed against the short glass brought an exhalation of relief. Good color! That same fresh appeal translated into our rolls (JB, Dynamite, and Fish Katsu). Simple. Good texture throughout. All sauces came on the side. What's this? The Dynamite and Eel sauce both didn't look like the ones I was used to. (More watery and the flavors aren't typical) No problem, I prefer the natural sushi flavors without the additions. HIDDEN GEM You find the sushi counter at the back of this little, two-aisle market located within squat, little plaza. ATMOSPHERE There are two short counter tables near the entrance--each probably sits only two people. The cashier brought our finished dishes to us and we also bought some drinks from the market's fridge. Great for take-out sushi. Five stars for the price, quality of sushi, and convenience--excellent (overcomes any negative of a small seating and weird sauces)!

I love this place. It's in a small shopping center and you wouldn't even know they have a sushi bar inside this tiny market. Most people most likely wouldn't even want to get sushi from here after walking in. The menu is small and simple and the sushi is cheap. Take out for two usually runs about 35 dollars plus tip. For the two of us to go to any other sushi place and we are easily spending $60-80. Good prices, fresh fish, and organized friendly take out. Look around the market while you wait. They have some cute stuff and cool Asian ingredients you can't find in your regular grocery store.

Just go here. It is one of my all time favorite establishments. Everything is right about it unless you were trying to impress someone with decor. The food is amazing, volcano and futomaki are my personal favorites. Take home a some of the red packaged ramen for a hangover cure, I swear it is mind blowingly delicious. I wish more mom and pop places like this existed.

This is the best sushi I have had in Florida. Compares favorably to what I remember eating in Tokyo. It is a hole in the wall with prices to match, kind people and great food. You can order take out and get out the white linen at home.

Unlike many "sushi" joints in S. FL, this place is actually run by real Japanese people. Keep in mind, this place is a small grocery store with small kitchen in the back, so choices of food are limited, but I must say they do great job keeping up the heavy demand of walk in / take out. Staff is friendly and nice, and food is good - don't let the pictures of food fool you, the small disposable plastic plates is deceiving. This is not your typical mega-Asian grocery stores to fulfill the needs of Japanese expats in the area. Need to say more?

Sasaya has the best sushi I have ever eaten. Furthermore, this is the only place my wife and i go for sushi. The strawberry and melon rice cakes are amazing, the sake selection is quite diverse, and there is a wide variety of assorted food and drink. However, it is the sushi that makes this place fantastic. I have become a regular customer and I have never been disappointed.

A hidden gem in the roughs of a mountain, you would never see this place unless you came inside this plaza. I really love feel and vibration of the store, the owners are friendly the sushi is A+. You can find saki and all kind of neat little Japanese\Asian groceries and novelty items to purchase. The sushi constantly excellent and fresh. The price for the sushi is much cheaper than the sushi restaurant in the same plaza, or anywhere I have seen in South Florida.

Neighborhood secret. Sushi is awesome! Fresh and great prices. This is our go to place about twice a week. I also go about three times a week to buy all their boxes of mochi ice cream. I made it a food group!

I visited Sasaya yesterday with a good friend that had recommended it for a while. Note that this is a good friend, a Japanese connoisseur who let me know about one of my all-time favorite places, Koume. Sasaya is a no-frills type place. Only a few seats at the front, a counter way in the back where you can order your lunch and in the middle of all that...a market...and what a cool little market it is...Stuffed to the brim with asian goodies...not exclusively Japanese as the name says, as you will find some Indonesian, Thailand and Chinese goods here. But the important stuff is here. Pocky, Genmaicha (Toasted rice green tea. Yup), Takoyaki, and Natto for the masochists. I ordered up my favorite Futomaki. It was very tasty and really FUTO! The highlight of it was really the rice. Nice and fluffy and well seasoned. I washed it down with some Jasmine Green Tea that I grabbed from the fridge. Then I dove into the shelves. I had to take some Tonkatsu sauce, some Takoyaki for my fridge, rice seasoning to experiment at home, and some Meiji Japanese chocolate. Delish. Sasaya is dope.

The best fast food sushi in the whole area! Been eating here for over a decade, and the owners are wonderful. Also there is a large selection of Japanese groceries and candies and other household items. Fantastic selection of sake as well. Great place for lunch, and some of the best quick cheap sushi in the whole city!
(5)

A bit of a hole in the wall but the sushi is delicious! It has 2 counters to eat it &'I feel like it's more of a take out place. The day we were there it was very busy but our sushi was perfect.

This place is awesome in a divey kind of way. Service, food and price are all perfect. It is a hole in the wall, and they do serve you out of foam containers and plastic silverware, but you can't beat the value or quality. I highly recommend trying their ginger salad dressing. It's the best of any sushi place I've ever tried. If you go for lunch, get takeout or get there early because the seating area is small and fills up fast. The staff is so nice and knowledgeable and they get to know the regulars. This place is a hidden gem among mediocre sushi that abounds in South Florida. Important notes: Sushi bar is closed on Monday and is closed for a month at a time when the chef goes on vacation. Satisfy your cravings before he leaves, otherwise you'll have a month of slim sushi pickings if you have to choose from the other sushi joints in Ft. Lauderdale.
(5)
Midori M.
I love this place especially if you love fresh sushi. One of my favorite places to go to when you are with people who do not care for sushi. Nice buffet with a variety of foods. I love the macaroons for dessert. The only thing missing is coffee for this coffee lover. Don't forget to tip the sushi chefs.

I have been a regular customer here for the last 10 years. Even though I moved out of the immediate area several years ago, I still make regular trips here for the best sushi I've found in Fort Lauderdale. The sushi here is consistently fresh and the portions are extremely generous for the price. I usually order a Sushi Combo for 1 Special or a couple rolls and some sashimi. I've never, ever had a bad meal here and I've pretty much sampled everything the menu has to offer. The only thing I would say is to choose fresh fish over the fried options. Make sure to check for house special rolls on the little black board in the back. Customer service is great as well. Satsuki knows my order by voice and I rarely have to wait for pick up. Dining in can be crowded during certain times of day since there is limited seating, but service is always quick and on point.

This little Japanese gem of a supermarket gets high marks for variety and authenticity! In this tiny space in the Gateway Plaza shopping center, Sasaya sure packs a lot.... If you love sake, you'll love Sasaya for its mixed choices of sakes from which to choose (fruity, smooth, dry, inexpensive to relatively affordable). Dry products, candy, snacks, sauces, dishware, and traditional Japanese decor (lanterns) all line the two aisles in this compact supermarket. The prices are reasonable for authentic ethnic products sold in the United States. But the fresh sushi that's made to order is what draws me in to this place. Good sized sushi rolls, fresh ingredients, and the price for how much you get is hands down worth coming here. And when your Japanese friend says Sasaya's sushi is one of the best in town, that's saying something right there!
(5)
Diana E.
Best sushi ever! My husband and I go there every week and the food is always fresh and awesomely priced! They have the best volcano and futomaki roll. Being a small market they also have nice imported Japanese grocery items. We highly suggest the mochi ice cream for dessert! Don't forget to the check the awesome sake collection but not to be consumed on the premises.

Guys, either I am full of crap or other reviewers never eaten good sushi ! Thus was the tiniest place I ever been to but size has no impact on quality. Sushi and shahimi were average - not sure where the word fresh came from for others. There was a Korean family sat next to me and they claim food was 5 star. Then I asked why they think its 5 star and they replied, 'we have no sushi in Denver so this is great!'

My boyfriend has been going to this place for, I think, years now and has brought me to this place about 3 or 4 times. We've eaten here twice so far. I am happy with the food and the atmosphere as well as the nice air conditioning that feels heavenly on hot days but I am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service. We are paying customers and I feel that the owners of Sasaya do not appreciate their customers. Every single time we've walked in, the lady has never once looked at us or smiled or greeted us and neither has the man. No engaging with the customers whatsoever. And it wasn't because they were busy. I wondered if it was just us that they treated like this but yesterday two other customers came in and I got the opportunity to see how they too were not treated with friendly customer service. However, I will admit that the lady smiles a shy smile every once in a while, but no "how are you?" or "hello,"? We went just yesterday for lunch, and the food was great, but it would've been better if the lady responded to me when I cheerfully said "hi!" to her. She didn't even look up at me and I felt so awkward. Sasaya might not be a full-scale restaurant but this is NOT how you do business, especially in the food service industry. I know most people might not care as much as I do for customer service but I just can't stop thinking about it so here I am writing this. I might sound like an extremely dissatisfied customer, and I am somewhat, but I still recommend you to try this place out. The sushi is fairly-priced and delicious and is good for a quick bite to eat or even a date. Ambience - 4/5 Service - 2/5 Food - 5/5

I give this place 5 stars, they have great sushi you can eat in, and great products. Their prices are slightly high on the japanese grocery items, but they have a great selection of items, including teas and mochi ice cream. The sushi we had their was very fresh and delicious. Most importantly, the great experience was strengthened by the way we were treated by the staff. Everyone was kind, patient, and appreciative for our business. We will be back! We really enjoyed ourselves there! Thanks!

So... this place is basically fantastic. And I actually hope you don't go there because if you do, I may not have a place to sit, plus, I want all their sushi for myself. I love this place... a whole lot. Everything about it is perfect. I feel bad for suckers who go anywhere else for sushi. This is the spot.

This is a small Asian Market. I would never think to come here to eat anything. The same person that suggested Jets Pizza to me also suggested this little hole in the wall market for my sushi cravings. After my experience at Heart Rock Sushi, I was a tad apprehensive about something that is located in the same strip mall. Since Jet's turned out okay, I decided to try out the sushi here. There are only 4 stools at the front of the store if you want to eat in, most people order take-out. Due to the size of the kitchen in the rear of the market, everything is prepared fresh. We ordered the following items to test the waters: -White Fish Roll -Steamed Dumplings I chose the white fish roll since it is a very good indication of freshness and tends to show its age sooner than salmon or tuna which may be bad but not always show the symptoms. We sat at the front and waiting for the food. The steamed dumplings arrived and they were of the sort where there is a dough cup that has minced meats and vegetables placed in. They weren't bad and tasted of a well cooked freezer dumpling. I would order them again. The white fish roll was good. It was mild and fresh. There was no smell about it was not in the least slimy. We finished our snack and left. I will definitely return here to sate cravings I have for fresh sushi.

Read about this place on Yelp while on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale. Basically it's the freshest/best sushi I've had at the cheapest price I've ever encountered. Double win! 4 of us ate for ~$50. We had 2 sashimi plates, 1 nigiri plate and several different rolls. The salmon, tuna and snapper quality were excellent. Highly recommended. The bonus is, it's FREAKIN CHEAP!

ok, so being new to fort lauderdale ive been searching for authentic sushi. Not some fried roll with imitation crab drowning in spicy mayo with a fancy name. Being from hawaii, I know sushi as many of my friends were from japan. THIS PLACE IS GREAT! yeah its not a place to take someone on a date but the sushi and sashimi is fresh and delicious and the price is sooo reasonable. I had the nigiri combo with miso soup and a seaweed salad came to 7 dollars. I will be back to try more things on there menu. my ONLY suggestion is that they should have "dine in" silverware and plates instead of all to go paper plates and cups. don't really enjoy miso soup out of a styro foam cup, but hey maybe im just being picky. GREAT PLACE !

Sasaya truly is a diamond in the rough. It is my favorite spot to curb my sushi cravings. This place is a small Japanese market with a sushi chef in the back. With only enough seating for 6-8 people, I would not recommend bringing a huge group for a night out or a date who expects a high class restaurant. All that aside, the quality and value of their traditional style sushi will outclass all other establishments in the city. Sasaya can get quite busy during the lunch rush so if you are short on time be sure to call ahead. Remember that the sushi bar is closed on Mondays. ITADAKIMASU

Just tried this little market/sushi counter last night, with a 6-roll + tuna tataki take-out order and some purchases from the market. We got medium rolls (check their menu at the website), of about 8 pieces per--were beautifully and amply assembled with the right balance of rice to fish and no skimping on fish, roe, or pickled ginger, in fact condiment sauces were plentiful. The rolls all came inside-out style so if you prefer traditional you better mention it. The hamachi was particularly good. Service polite and efficient. As another reviewer's photos show, a couple counters are available for dining in maybe 8 max I didn't count the seats. The market has a small but respectable selection of dry goods exceeding the "Asian section" at Publix in both price and variety, including those soba noodle bowls with the savory crouton added last for crunch. Totally addicting! And in the cooler are more sake choices than a non-connoisseur will know what to do with. Sasaya is evidence of small business owners working hard to deliver nice, affordable, authentic Japanese flavors and textures. We'll be regulars.

A great little spot for a casual dinner. Great menu, and exceptional value. Unfortunately you cannot drink the saki that you buy on the premises if you dine in. Green tea it shall be!

Sasaya is a small Japanese market in Fort Lauderdale. While very small, it has a good selection of Japanese basics that are hard to find in the Miami area. On our last visit we purchased a variety of sauces, curry, and the like. They also have a refrigerated section with things like tofu, pickled goods, and drinks. There is a sushi bar here as well, which gets good recommendations even though I haven't yet had a chance to try it. On the whole, I wouldn't drive from Miami where I live to Fort Lauderdale just to go here, but if I am in the area I will definitely stop by.

This is one of my hidden gems in the Fort Lauderdale area for a quick bite of sushi, and re-stocking all of my Asian-specific ingredients that you can't find in your common grocery store. The fish that they offer here is incredibly fresh, and is easily one of my favorite spots to go for a nice refreshing lunch after a long run. The pork Shumai is one of our favorites, as well as the Salmon Nigiri. I love the fresh flavors of their simple sushi. There is not much seating, so takeout is an option. I prefer the authentic feel of eating in a close-quartered Japanese market with my chopsticks and a fresh box of Pocky sticks to devour afterwards.

I went on Saturday night. I went out of my way to find this place per the glowing reviews on Yelp! Boy am I glad I did! When I walked it I was in heaven! They have an awesome selection of extremely-hard-to-find, authentic Japanese goods! My favorite part of the market was that it carried only Japanese goods which is very hard to find in markets these days (most are bundled under Chinese/Japanese/some Korean). This is the first market in the area (that I knew of) that has just Japanese goods! Awesome little market with Kikkoman Green Tea Soy Milk!, Mango Calpis, hard-to-find ramen flavors! (tonkotsu, shoyu - soy sauce and miso), anpan!, hayashi rice, red bean ice cream! as well as various assorted awesome Japanese goods. It was hard not spending all my money here even the the prices were generally very reasonable! The other huge bonus is the sushi chef in the back making fresh sushi, sashimi and appetizers! I asked for an oshinko roll not knowing that oshinko was actually a broad term for tsukemono (literally "pickled things.") The Japanese lady was very nice and answered all my questions and then proceeded to explain the types of oshinko made out of radish: takuan and shibazuke. The lady was so nice and patient and she even wrote the name of the hand roll in Japanese and romaji. Highly recommended if you love Japanese products and are looking for rare, harder-to-find authentic goods!

This store existed for a long time maybe aeons, it used to be called Kyoya Japanese Market. I really miss the original owner but it still is good for purchasing certain items that my Mother & I myself need whenever we are around. Especially after shopping "all day" at the Galleria Mall or hanging at the Gateway shopping plaza. You know burning all of that calories or energies you get HUNGRY, yes you know you love food, you know you want to eat, you just want to drool because you damn well love Sushi & sashimi. Their food is yummy in your tummy, I tasted before and it is so "Oishi!" I remember in good old decade ago when DVDs were something in the boom, I would rent out videos. If I had time I would want to rent out again but then you can pretty much buy DVDs on online or watch it from the internet. I am surprised that they sell things that they didn't sell back then like Nippon Kodo incense sticks (my favorite item!), iwako erasers, some Hello Kitty stuff, used books and other things. Personally, it did improve than back in the day so I'm satisfied how it is to be honest. Even though there is another one in Miami but I'm more Fort Lauderdale chic than Miami babes. Plus, I wouldn;t want to drive all the way down there when everything is available where I live. However, I wish they opened on Sundays...

I have been to this place a few times times, including yesterday, and as far as I know it is named Sasaya Japanese Market. At least that what the signs say. Aiala is right though they make great sushi in the back. You can eat it there, but there is not much atmosphere, or take it with you and you can not beat the quality or the price.. A small place with not a huge selection of products, but enough for a wannabe Japanese iron chef like me.

Had been to the Japanese Market in Miami with similar set up, grocery store and sushi in-house. Was hoping to get same experience closer to home. Sadly, the fish was no comparison. Walked to the back and ordered food from friendly store clerk. Walked to the front and got a couple of drinks from the fridge (a mango and aloe vera drink). A couple of high tables in the front. Food was brought up to us by clerk. Ordered Chirashi regular, 14 pieces. Fish was fresh, so good points there. Rice was good but couldn't detect any vinegar. But not spectacular or remarkably fresh (which was what I was expecting). $14.50. Husband got Spider roll and dynamite roll. Don't recall the price. Amazingly bland. Tried to mix with the mildest spicy mayo I've ever seen. Fried crabs tasted like old popcorn. Total meal+drinks+a box of barley tea= $45. Was glad to have tried it, so at least I know. No comparison to Japanese market. However, there were some charming little stores in the shopping plaza so did get some items purchased.

I love this place. It's very small. Two aisles of dried/canned/pre-packaged Japanese (mostly) goods. One wall of refrigerated/frozen goods, including a variety of sake and one wall of junky housewares. There are four or five places to sit by the front window and a sushi counter at the back of the store. The fish is fresh. The prices reasonable. The one roll that stands out (and that I've ordered about half a dozen times in the past couple of weeks) is the arugula and tuna roll. It's crisp, peppery arugula next to a piece of fresh tuna an asparagus and a tiny smidge of cream cheese wrapped in a pink soy sheet (pictured here). It's all sprayed with a little lime juice. Just delicious and perfect for a sunny day.

Easy to order...everything tasted good on the combo. The salad was good with the yellow sauce. Good times. Plus, all the Japanese specialty foods.

Been coming to Sasaya for years and I love it. If I ever move away from ft lauderdale it will be one of the places I miss the most. Got me through the tough college years when all I had was a shoestring budget. Good afffordable sushi and great service.

(5)Jim S.
The market is small but nice, but the key to this market is the sushi bar in the back. It is great sushi.
(5)J M.

(5)Rob C.
name = Sasaya really far off the beaten path for me store consists of only 2 aisles didn't get anything, but i suppose it's an alternate to my usual japanese market on 79th in terms of the simple menu, has standard rolls

(5)Jessica B.
(5)Annie J.

Great Informal Sushi Bar Masquerading as a Japanese Market!
(5)Alejandro S.
Very good, had the Chirashi, would have liked better cut pieces and variety but very good overall
(4)Jade N.
Love it, yummy Japanese sodas and snacks, Fresh fish and sushi rolls. You can even buy sushi making supplies and groceries to make your own rolls at home
(5)Acelyn B.
(4)Sophia N.
(5)Kristy L.
(5)Drew D.
(3)Rachel S.
(4)Daniel A.
(4)Rebecca B.
You can order your sushi there and take it or eat there. There are no alcoholic beverages but that's ok we weren't drinking. Everything is made right the in front of you. You can shop while you wait. They have a lot of stuff very well priced.
(5)Tyler S.
(4)Hin C.
Small Japanese store with a small Sushi Bar in the back. The Food that comes out of that bar is bang for its buck. I would definitrly go there again. I was also tempted to buy some of their cups and dishware lol.
(5)Samika T.
(5)Jacob D.
(5)Paul N.
(4)Vincent S.
I love here. Many products from Japan and food is nice. I just wonder which part of Japan are the owners from?
(4)Charlotte S.
(5)Marqus R.
(2)Ivonne S.
(1)Michael R.
(4)Guy M.
(5)G D.
(5)Kristin C.
(5)Lee Z.
Overall this is a good place for sushi, and I will be back
(4)Keith A.
(5)enrique b.
(4)Andrew J.
(5)Jana B.
Call in for some take out since I live a block away and the must say the sushi was pretty good. I'll probably go back
(4)Pyra-Danny V.

Awesome little spot- try the Futomaki
(5)David V.
The sushi quality was top notch. I really like how clean and simple the store owners keep their Japanese market.
(5)Iris N.

The little Sushi place in FTLD , a hidden Gem. They only have seating for 6-8 people but many do take out. Can't beat the freshness & value Simple & Perfect Also a market
(5)Frank C.
For a straight Japanese market in so fla this just may be as good as it gets for now. Would be more impressed if it kicked in some of the flavors Brazilian-Japanese have added to the scene.

I dont review often, but this place really deserves it. I live in Hypoluxo, but I make sure to pass this place as often as possible for some of the best sushi around. Simple and perfect.
(5)CJ M.
(5)Sean M.

(5)Jodi C.
A bit of a hole in the wall but the sushi is delicious! It has 2 counters to eat it &'I feel like it's more of a take out place. The day we were there it was very busy but our sushi was perfect.
(4)Ani L.
Lauderdale.
(5)Midori M.
(5)Julie F.

(5)Diana E.

(3)Ana B.
... nothing amazing, just regular sushi, yes fresh, but not many options.. Will stick with Sushi One when I don't want to spend that much money for a quick lunch or dinner..
(2)Andy B.
This is the best and freshest Sushi you will find in South Florida! For two of us we barely spend 25.00 this includes tip. everything is fresh and perfect!
(5)David G.
Thanks!
(5)Jack A.
So... this place is basically fantastic. And I actually hope you don't go there because if you do, I may not have a place to sit, plus, I want all their sushi for myself. I love this place... a whole lot. Everything about it is perfect. I feel bad for suckers who go anywhere else for sushi. This is the spot.
(5)Sal G.

(5)Kona G.
ok, so being new to fort lauderdale ive been searching for authentic sushi.

On the whole, I wouldn't drive from Miami where I live to Fort Lauderdale just to go here, but if I am in the area I will definitely stop by.

tiny Japanese market with amazing sushi, great prices
(5)Josh D.

(2)Bernardo A.
(4)B B.
Easy to order...everything tasted good on the combo. The salad was good with the yellow sauce. Good times. Plus, all the Japanese specialty foods.
(4)Carlos C.
Been coming to Sasaya for years and I love it. If I ever move away from ft lauderdale it will be one of the places I miss the most. Got me through the tough college years when all I had was a shoestring budget. Good afffordable sushi and great service.
